I’m Sarah, owner of Rowan Tree Bakery.
I'm a self-taught baker, and have been baking professionally for over 12 years.
Baking started off as a hobby for me, making wedding cakes and birthday cakes for family and friends while I practiced my decorating skills. I quickly grew to love the art of cake decorating and being part of people’s special occasions. I knew that I wanted to grow my little business and spend more time on the farm without the daily commute to and from Bristol. I finally left my office job in April 2021 to put my all into doing what I’d dreamed of for many years.
Alongside Rowan Tree Bakery I also work at our amazing local refill shop Re:Store Congresbury, which is run by my friends Jo & Claire. I source a lot of my baking ingredients from here, keeping food waste down and supporting local independent suppliers in the process. You will often find me here talking cakes and swapping baking tips with our regular customers.

Baked with love
It's a wonderful thing to be able to get together, celebrate, and share food!
My aim is to bring joy to you and your loved ones by creating cakes with thoughtful touches to make your gathering extra special.
Sustainability is really important to me across the whole process – using local suppliers and ingredients, using recycled packaging and minimising waste.
From our garden
I always strive to incorporate seasonal ingredients into my cakes, sourced either direct from our garden or from suppliers close by.
I grow my own edible flowers and herbs for cake toppings with advice and help from my Mum-in-Law Deb who has the magic touch with anything she grows!
Homemade jams, fruit & veg come from my parent's garden in Cheddar, where everything is grown with love and care.

Thomas Farm
I grew up in North Somerset and live here with my family. We're lucky to live on my partner's family farm surrounded by fields and wildlife.
I'm always inspired by the beauty of the landscape and nature here. We spot a wide variety of wildlife on the farm, including Sparrowhawks, bats, badgers, slow worms and toads.
My business is named after one of my favourite trees, with its bright clashing red and green colours, and of course my daughter Rowan. Rowan and her younger brother Toby are both amazing cake testers!
Local suppliers & ingredients
I'm passionate about using great quality, ethically sourced ingredients to create bakes that are full of flavour. There are some fantastic suppliers nearby, and I'm proud to be supporting my community of local small businesses.
Re:Store Congresbury is a fantastic sustainable place to shop, and supplies the majority of my essential baking ingredients – Shipton Mill Organic flour, Essential Fairtrade sugar & Oooh! Chocolata chocolate, to name just a few. I also work in this lovely shop a couple of days a week, very handy for stocking up on supplies!
The Floral Potager in Wick-St-Lawrence supplies stunning UK seasonal flowers when I need more flowers than my garden plot can provide!
