Weston Museum's first wedding showcase!
On 15th April I exhibited at the first ever wedding showcase at Weston Museum. The Museum opened as a wedding venue in 2022, and I made the wedding cake for the first wedding to be held there last year; Rosie & Alex's wedding in May 2022.
I've wanted to do a wedding fair/showcase since I re-branded as Rowan Tree Bakery in 2021, and have been gradually building up to it, working on my confidence to chat to people about what I do, which is not always easy for me! This was my first wedding showcase, so I was a bit nervous but also looking forward to meeting local suppliers and talking about all things cake.
A photo from Rosie & Alex's wedding day in 2022, with my cake and flowers from The Floral Potager, captured by David Gould of Weddings By Gould Photography.
The wedding showcase took place on a beautiful Spring day, showing off the light, airy space of the main courtyard of the Museum with its high windowed ceiling. The exposed brickwork walls and original cobbled floors are a interesting feature of the building, which was formerly the industrial premises of the Weston Gaslight Company, and a Grade II listed building. The exhibitors space was in the main courtyard space (an indoor courtyard), and there was another large room that adjoins the courtyard, set up with dining tables in wedding breakfast style with beautiful natural floral arrangements on the tables.
There were a select number of local wedding suppliers attending, including my friend Sacha from The Floral Potager, who supplies me with amazing UK-grown flowers for most of my wedding cakes. On the stand to the other side of me was the lovely Lee-Ann of Celebrations with Lee-Ann, who is a Celebrant, and also one of my cake customers!
There were three very talented musicians/singers exhibiting, Emily, Lizzie and Lucy Anna, so we were treated to a mini concert from each of them during the showcase. I've listed all their details at the end of this blog; do check them out if you are looking for some beautiful music to entertain your wedding guests.
Sacha brought along a stunning display of Spring flowers, with tulips and Narcissus being the stars of the show. The previous day, I had popped over to Sacha's flower garden to pick a few Calendula, Hawthorn branches and Forget-me-knots to add to my tiered display cake.
I had plenty of cake samples with me for couples to try, and with it being my first wedding showcase it was hard to know how much to bake and bring. I did make slightly too much (I'd always rather have too much cake than too little!) but what was left was shared out amongst the other exhibitors and so wasn't wasted! I really enjoyed this showcase, and it's always nice to get to chat to some of the other suppliers who live locally. It's given me a good boost of confidence for future fairs and showcases.
If you're looking for a central Weston venue that's a little bit different and quirky with some wonderful architectural features, then get in touch with Sophie, Weston Museum's Wedding Co-Ordinator. She is super helpful and can also recommend you some great local suppliers :) https://westonmuseum.org/venue-hire/weddings/
